Jose signs Chinese contract

Jose Fonte has officially departed West Ham after agreeing his move to China. The Portuguese international signed a contract with Dalian Yifang this morning and the news will be officially announced by both clubs this afternoon.

The deal is said to be worth £4.3 million to West Ham with 34-year-old likely to earn up to £120,000 a week after tax. Fonte has signed a two-year contract with the Chinese Super League club.

Fonte has not played for West Ham since October because of an ankle injury and in the interim was angered by David Sullivan, the West Ham joint chairman, saying that his children had begged him not to sign the defender. He had 17 months left on his £70,000-a-week West Ham contract originally costing the Hammers £8.3m under Slaven Bilic.

Re: Fnte, off to China next week??
Well Moyes has said a few time he wanted Fonte to play in some youth games or similar to get his fitness back and that has not happened.

Proof of nothing but this would provide an explanation.

I didn't know that you could sell players once the transfer window had shut.

Still take a hit on what we paid for him

Dreadful transfer which i called at the time

Dont think we'd miss him too much with Rice and Evra as cover

Well done Rossal, you must be the only person who thought that at the time.

I'll admit that I didn't think it! I thought he was good. Although I didn't get why we needed him.

The owners are starting to really piss me off.
How about seriously keeping your mouth shut from now on?

I dont here Stan Kroenke talking about how shit Xhaka is? I dont here the Man City MD writing a column in some tabloid making fun of another chairmen?

What kind of business people are this lot?

Whether Fonte is at the club or not should be down to things on the pitch and in training, not some shitty comment that has just cost the club (sure Isnt going to cost Sullivan anything) 5m quid and (IMHO) a very decent player.

How disrespectful is it to say what he said about a pro who is a euro winner and been a good player for years in this league? And hes been injured so Moyes hasnt been able to turn things around for him like he's done for Arnie, Kayoute etc..

This club is a joke. It really is.

We overpaid for sure.
But we had lost Ogbonna and for years we have had periods where we were short at centre because two of the others get injured a lot.

Still like to see what Moyes could do with him but lots of reasons for him to leave.

Re: Fnte, off to China next week??
i met fonte in canary wharf 2 weeks ago. said he was completely fit and ready to go when 'he' wants to put him in. the emphasis on the 'he' and the manner in which he rolled his eyes didn't exactly say that he and the manager were best pals and seeing eye to eye on stuff.

in fairness, despite starting the season well, we have ginge and reid and don't need him. he was bought in for an injured ogbonna and we now have rice too.

I've no issue with this tbh
like the guy but overall he's I wouldn't say it was a raving success of a transfer
chance to get a few quid and free up wages for all the next level signings going into the 18/19 season

Re: Fonte, off to China next week??
Why are they paying in Euros and why only 5m of them? have they forgotten to put a zero on the end of the 5?

We must be in profit by now.

Are there any mid 30s CB available on a free?
